Johnson Evinrude head gasketCommon signs of a bad head gasket are low cylinder compression or water leaking by and collecting in the lower engine cowling. Often times head gaskets are replaced when removing the cylinder head to check on the status of pistons and the cylinder walls. You should consult a service manual for the proper replacement procedures. Some engines require sealants and there are usually a tightening sequence and torque specs.
