Johnson Evinrude Outboard Tilt Trim Motors

Tilt Trim Motors

Hydraulic tilt and trim systems rely on an electric motor to operate the small hydraulic pump below. The trim pump forces fluid to the cylinders, or rams, to move the motor up or down for trimming and trailering. Tilt and trim motors fail occasionally, but luckily this is an easy fix. Installing a new motor is a quick job, and a clever design feature makes it simple. Most trim motors have a blue wire for blue sky and the UP position; and a green wire for green grass and the DOWN position.
