    new hope

    think I've cracked it - there was a split in one of the accelerator pump vacuum pipes which I guess results in a total loss of vacuum at the diaphragm - seems to have made a BIG difference to performance - will report back after next testing!

    thanks for the tip re airscrew settings I have a new fuel pump fitted which is pumping fuel from both outlets carb bowls are filling with fuel carbs have been stripped and carefully rebuilt - fuel levels are correct, all jets clean and blown thru electric choke operation ok engine starts first...

    to test my fuel pump could I just connect some pipe to the two outlets, turn her over and see if fuel emrges from the pipes - (obviously just a few turns of the engine for safety) - seems a lot easier than running and squeezing the bulb
