2004 BF200 solid alarm after idle for couple minutes

Last weekend I hooked up the muffs and hose like normal to run the engine a few mins before heading out. After a couple mins I got a solid beep alarm and the motor cut off. water flow thru the muffs and the thru hole was good. I checked oil level and it was close to bottom tick mark. I am thinking it is low oil level causing the oil pressure to run low. Any other ideas out there what might be causing the alarm?

Thanks

Ditto.

If it was oil pressure too low, engine would continue to run in SLOW mode (<= 1800 rpm). If overheat detected for 20 seconds, engine shuts down, as happened in your case.

Test engine in a barrel of water. Muffs will not sufficiently cool these big Honda's unless you have exceptional water pressure and an excellent seal over the intakes.

Did you come up with a solution? What have you tried? We had the same problem on ours but we were running back in from offshore. Just turned off motor and back on and it was ok. Port motor did it 5 times stbd did it once

Did you observe your warning lights? Solid alarm is a critical engine fault, either oil pressure failure or overheat. So either the red temp light would have come on or the green oil light would have turned off.

there were no lights on so I’m going to assume the oil light went off, we recently did a top end rebuild on both motors and have ran them a decent amount since. But I’m not sure why the port motor would do it 4-5 times and stbd do it only once. Before we went out we checked oil in the motors and noticed the port motor was darker and lower on the stick vs the stbd so we topped it off.

I would suggest an oil pressure check, these symptoms are consistant with thrust washer failure. DrH diagnostics record the number of oil pressure loss event, might be worth checking too.

It’s just strange how it did it multiple times that motor and once on the other motor. Just checked the serial number and it doesn’t have the ones that are commonly effected.

Pulled the codes and we got one short flash snd one long flash for both motors what is that? I have the list of codes but is that a 10 or 11 or what because there’s no 11

Clear your codes and try again. Solid alarm does not set a code. It is either overheat or low oil pressure, check your warning lights when the alarm iis activated. BTW, the codes are 1 and 10

Ok, we cleared them yesterday going to try and run it this weekend, also checked the thermostats on that motor and they both operated fine when pushing in the spring, we did not put heat to them tho

Do your warning lights come on with the key on before start up? I'm no big block Honda mechanic but from lurking and reading posts here I'm surprised at how guys say their warning lights don't work properly. It seems that many instrument panels don't always get wired up correctly.....
....or something!

Good luck.

Changed the oil abs made sure it was full in oil and it never did it again. However we’re getting a code for an O2 sensor, do y’all recommend buying the oem $300 one or going to an auto parts store abs grabbing one that’s similar?
