running at 4200 rpm the port motor losses then regains rpm. drop down to 3000 rpm and runs for awhile then same thing. Motor bucks like it is losing fuel pressure. squeeze bulb and it works for awhile then starts doing the same thing. Filters are all 3 months old. If i run below 3000 it will last awhile but then drops to 2000 and back to 3000. when motor isnt running primer bulb gets hard when pumped. Stays semi hard when pumping while running and seems to keep motor running at rpm. Stop squeezing bulb while running and she will buck between 4200 rpm and 3200 rpm after a short time while running at 4200. 4200 being cruise. below 3000 she doesn't do it as much. idle speed to 1500 no issues. Anybody?

did you change high pressure fuel filters ? if so look at vst tank/bowl or fuel pump
Did primary filter/water separator. Did the low pressure filter under the cowling and also did the green high pressure filter at the VST. Drained the VST,no water pure clean gas came out. This was done 4 months ago the motor currently at 45hrs since filters were changed. haven't checked the fuel pump yet. I do believe there is a low pressure and high pressure pump. Which would be the first and easiest to check first? Thanks

This would be a low pressure delivery fault.First try a caddy tank to rule out boat fuel supply. Then check your fuel line, they often get crushed over time where it runs through the rigging grommet. If all okay, carry out a volume flow test of the low pressure pump although they very rarely give trouble

found the problem. eithenol fuel. Took out the high speed fuel filter in port motor and it was caked with jelly. Did the same on the strb motor at it was half caked. The internal housing had a jelly like film and had to wipe both out. Drained the fuel from the VST came out clear. Let it sit for a minute and it turned cloudy. tried to post pics but won't let me. Now I need to try and run this 125 gallons out of the boat to get back to none ethanol. watch your backs buying fuel now. At $6.75 a gallon these people will do anything to make a buck. This fuel was sold as non ethanol fuel.

I suggest that you drain the entire fuel tank and load up with new non-ethanol fuel. You can do that rather easily by buying an aftermarket auto electric fuel pump, hook it up to a long intake hose which will go into the very furthermost corner of the tank, and a long exit hose which will go into the storage containers. Tilt the boat so the fuel goes into one corner of the fuel tank. You will likely need to remove the fuel pick-up on the top of the tank to get into the tank, unless you have a separate access plate on the tank.

I do this every few years in order to get any water and debris out of my tank.

Depending on the state of the extracted fuel, you may be able to use it in a truck or auto, a few gallons at a time. They seem much more tolerant of crappy fuel.

Chawk_man's right....

Ideally I would feed that stuff to my '66 Ford F 250 slick side with the inline 300 6 cyl. That FoMoCo 1 barrel carb wouldn't much care and neither would the ancient beast of an engine. It sits more than I care to admit but fires right up and burns whatever I've left sitting in the tank no problem.

However, anything injected, especially newer than around 2000 you might want to think twice. Even lawn mowers these days!

Good luck with your cleanup.

Jimmy,

Roger that. You are likely correct on all counts.

How in the heck do you get rid of 125 gallons of old gas?

Bill,
That's a DANG GOOD question!
Here's another one...

....what do you drain and store it in???

I have tons of gas cans and containers in my barn but nowhere near 125 gallons worth!

I'm sure glad it ain't happenin' to me!

When I had to drain out about 80 gallons from my first C-hawk that was wrecked and sunk, I borrowed two 55 gallon drums from a local farmer. I think he was planning to use the old gas to burn out a bunch of old brush piles on his farm, but not sure what he actually did with it.

Either way, I don't know a truly legal (and safe) way to get rid of it.
