Primer bulbs ?

Problem I have is customer boat 2006 triton tr -196 optimax 200, running sluggish. Found that original gray fuel line from bulb to primary pulse pump was breaking down and filled fuel/water filter in vst , was full of plastic from line break down. Cleaned primary side of VST and changed filter, replaced line and primer bulb . and rebuilt primary pulse pump.. Now when he runs to fishing spot after priming bulb motor runs great, he trims motor up to use power poles, trims motor down to move and bulb is soft has to pump bulb . trying to get on plane again and motor stalls, he pumps bulb again and motor runs great. Now vst has boost pump with check valve connected to high pressure pump. There is also the air and fuel regulators on port side rail. I checked fuel and air pressure air at 80 and fuel at 90 psi. Anti siphon valve normally creates fuel supply issue rite? check valve in primer bulb should hold rite ?
Going to check that fuel rail holds 20-25 psi after key is turned off. Any input will be appreciated.

Shouldn't primer bulb stop that ?
Look at the way fuel travels... from tank to bulb..from bulb to mechanical pump...from mechanical pump to VST..from VST to fuel rails. For the engine to do what you posted fuel would have to leave the VST. Only way it can leave is thru inlet needle (which should be closed tilted up) back thru mechanical fuel pump(has to leak past both check valves) to every get fuel to flow back to bulb. As in bulb types always use a OEM. If at my shop first thing I would check is to see if a piece of that fuel line debris is in inlet needle holding float open....

With that ethanol crap we're forced to run, I replace ALL rubber hoses in the fuel systems on a regular basis. Seen too many of those black particles from the hose in the bottom of a carb.

Amen, Jeff. Eats up those worthless laminated hoses like candy. It's supposed to be better than rubber, but WTF? Ethanol doesn't belong in this equipment. Oil at 35 bucks a barrel produces fuel much much less expensive than growing corn and distilling it. Ethanol at E85, produces 30 PERCENT LESS POWER......The farmers can grow corn to eat......much more practical. Corn bread is my favorite, corn whiskey ain't that bad either. Besides we need more hand sanitizer.

Primer bulbs are made of synthesized rubber too. They don't pump after about 2 years of use, up here in the near Arctic conditions. They get as hard as a honeymoon pec&er. Got ORIGINAL PRIMER BULB on my 1965 Evinrude Fisherman.....that's right......55 years old. Use it every single year, yes every single year. Rubber today is not rubber, it's trash, same goes for impellers.
