Found a lot of build up in one of my thermostats and was looking for the pressure relief valve poppet valve. Does anyone have this procedure? Location etc.
Thanks

On my 130hp it,s on the port side looking aft you will see a cover its just next to the starter motor its in there .Wot i did find in the hose flush on top of the cylinder head it works the same way as the poppet valve but just opposite that one was full of salt build up inside .

Never had to disassemble mine, but they sit on the engine mount case, right outside where the exhaust tubes exit the mount case. You need to completely remove the upper cowlings to get to them. Each relief valve cover is held in place with three 6 mm (I think) bolts. The cover on the starboard side has a water tube coming out of it. You simply remove the covers, pull out spring, valve, and valve collar and clean thoroughly. Also clean out the seating area and make sure the water passages in and out are cleaned. Manual says to not re-use rubber cover seal of valve collar.

If you have the Helm Shop Manual, look at Chapter 8.

Bill's correct. I have not known the pressure relief valve to cause an issue. Clean your thermosta ports well and you should fix your overheat issue

I have had an issue with a dirty PRV on a BF175 (V6 block). The covers are a pain but the rest is very simple. Not a common issue though on the Hondas.
