Oxygen sensor wire broken

I have a 200hp honda that is dropping revs when going over 2000rpm. Drops revs going over the ocean swell as we'll. Found the sensor wire has come away and just hanging on the first filter which I think is the oxygen sensor?. Would this broken wire be effecting the performance of the motor?
thanks

Yes, a non-working HO2 sensor will drop revs. The engine is not getting the right amount of oxygen. Replace the entire wire, do not try to repair. Find the part number on www.boats.net.

Just to clarify, O2 sensors monitor the stochiometric fuel to air mixture. So, they help to control lean/rich condition. I don't know about that engine in particular, so I can't say if that missing ECU input would make the engine run poorly.
