Looking for a coupler for a 460 OMC cobra. The years that will work are from 89 to 93. Part number: (old) 984537 and (new) 986232.
Thanks,

Welcome to the wonderful world of OMC. There are no couplers available for the King. None. Nobody in the aftermarket business bothered with most K.C. parts 'cuz there weren't enough King's made by OMC to make it worthwhile. Sorry for the bad news. You may luck out on ebay. Good luck.

Yeah, I've tried alot of places including Doug Russell Marine. I was hoping they would have one as I was driving by their place the next day. Would have had the boat back in the water by now. Anyway, to make a long story short, I was unable to find this part, and was referred to Performance Engine, in Orillia Ontario. They do a conversion by drilling the flywheel to make another heavy duty aftermarket coupler fit. They advertize a quick turnaround, but it's the shipping that takes 2-3 days or more each way, depending where you live. So it adds up to another 2 weeks boating time lost during the already short season, by the time everything is completed. I should be floating again within the next week or so.

This is a great site. Thanks for all the replys.

right he is, but an SEI conversion doesn't solve anyone's coupler problems anyhow.... no coupler in an SEI conversion kit

I suggest you contact Mel's Marine in Eugene Oregon. Good people, honest information and they know what they are talking about. Honest and fair prices.

While we love the 460 (cuz you can get 600-odd horses out of it pretty easy) parts for it are getting hard to find. My advice is to get something like a universal fit type coupler, such as this.
Then you'd have to have a machine shop drill and tap the six bolt holes in your 460 flywheel (so that it is perfectly centered). Don't throw away any 460 marine anything yet!
I'm not sure, but I think that maybe an automatic transmission flex plate from a 460 truck will take the above coupler without needing to drill. Should just bolt up. Be sure the ring gear tooth count is the same.

Ayuh,.... I'd think you'd still need the mass of a flywheel, over the lack of it with a flex-plate...
