Hey guys, I have a BF100 10HP Honda engine and I want to perform a leak test on the lower unit. Does anyone know the vacuum/pressure specifications necessary for this test? Thanks, M.R.

There are multitudes of opinions and numbers "out there" on this subject.

My direct answer to your question is:

6 psi to 10 psi pressure
And
6 inHg vacuum

But....many considerations to ponder.

As in.....
Why are you doing this? For the experience? Is there a leak or contamination?

If there's a leak then submerging the case as you pressure test will tell you where it is BEFORE you replace anything.

Single lip seals won't hold as much vacuum as pressure so don't push that.

I base MY suggestion of 6 inHg as being the equivalent of 83 in. H2O which is the equivalent of 3psi.

Older seals may leak at a lower vacuum reading so, if you're not replacing ALL the seals, that could be a factor.

There's more but it's been some time since I did this so I would need to think about it some more.

Good luck
