Johnson starter

I have a 1976 Johnson 70 hp and replaced the starter,but I noticed the new starter gear has 9 teeth on it and the old starter has 10 looks like the new starter gear fits the teeth on the fly wheel ok could it be the gears are just a lil bit different size? Seems to start up ok just wondering thanks.

Is the diameter of the new bendix.larger than the old one?

What brand of starter motors are the starters ??

If it meshes it will be fine..benifits is that it will crank a lil faster

Think about gear ratios and amount of teeth.

I race go karts as a hobby and know a lot about ratios. Here...try 40 tooth ring and 10 pinion then try 9. Picks up 1/2 a evolution

One revolution of a larger bendix (more teeth) would cause the flywheel to turn further... BUT... it would at the same time put a larger load on the starter.

However, wouldn't that require more amperage?... OH, who the hell cares?
