Honda BF90A water temp alarm

Please help!!!!
Water temp alarm buzzer comes on and stays on even at cold start (2000 carbureated). This makes the engine cut out when trying to rev engine up or get on plane. Below is a list of things that I have tried to remedy the situation.
1. I have changed the impeller (even though it looked OK), thermostat, and temp sensor.
2. I have cleaned the poppet valve and had a mechanic look at it (he thought it was OK).
3. I may have a little too much oil in the engine but the oil light is green.
4. I changed the oil and filter and had a mechanic change the steering helm out before the problem occurred.

Nothing else changed from last year other than it set in my garage for about 6 months.

Does this engine have a computer? If so, where is it? Engine serial nbr. is BBBL-4201122

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try disconnecting the temp sensor top left side of the cyl head. it may be shorting out

Tried that. It didn’t work

All I can suggest is tracing the wires from the temp sensor back to the CDI unit and make sure there is no short anywhere, failing that you will need to find a CDI unit. You are certain it's temp and not oil pressure causing the alarm?

Light on remote for oil is green. Water temp light is red. The buzzer comes on immediately and stays on constantly. That’s all I know. I will look for a short tomorrow. I found the CDI. Everything looks good but I do not have a way to test anything on it. Is the CDI where a mechanic could hook a laptop up to and diagnose the problem?

Are you a Honda mechanic? I’m only asking because I am just a dumb ole country boy and I thought the same thing. Please do not take any offense to my question.

Yes, but it's sometimes hard to assist with problems like this without actually looking at the motor

Well, you’re a good one. I checked the wiring all the way to the remote. I wiggled them around and the light went out. Lake tested today and it ran great. I also unplugged the main battery for about 5 minutes. One of those two fixed the problem. Thank you so much for your help and God bless.

It was the wiggling of the wires. Unplugging the battery for a while doesn't have any effect on this outboard because it has no ECM (Engine Control Module...ie: computer).

No ECM means no memory and no memory capacitors to discharge by disconnecting the battery....as you might in an auto or fuel injected outboard.

Therefore, you STILL have a wiring problem that may cause the symptoms to return at a very inconvenient time or place.
