Honda BF200 sputtering

Hello,
I have;
Honda
2007
4 Stroke
200 HP
Model BF200AKO
S/N BAEJ-1500323

All fuel filters have been changed.
After 30-45 minutes of running around at all RPMs, my engine starts sputtering and I lose power. I throttle back and it never cuts off. Fuel bulb stays normal. When I try to throttle back up it immediately sputters and I can’t get going. Here’s the mystery. When I shut it down and start it back up, it’ll run fine for 5-10 minutes and then the sputtering repeats. I shut it down and restart and again it’ll run fine for 5-20 minutes. No lights nor alarms. Any thoughts ???

1. Try a portable tank- to eliminate anything in the fuel system outside the engine.
2. Could be something electrical breaking down as it heats up
3. Check spark plugs, see if any surprises.
4. Do you have the Honda shop manual for this outboard? Check it to see you found all the fuel filters. If you don’t have it, buy the Honda one only.
5. Has it set any check engine lights?

Great ideas.
I’ve done the backup fuel tank test before with fresh fuel and it sputtered just the same.
I’ll try it again but this time I’ll wait for the sputtering to start before changing over to the backup fuel tank.

I’ll put in new spark plugs.

I do have a shop manual and I did change the nitty gritty high pressure fuel filter. As well as the low pressure fuel filter and water separator.

No lights nor alarms.

No Sir. No dirt. I’m Thinking about just taking it in and have them atleast have run the diagnostic check and fuel pressure check.

I agree with you about taking it to run the diagnostics with the Dr.H.

Just wanted to say that, if you're in an area where you have options as to who gets the job and you don't have a previous, positive experience with any of them, you might benefit from visiting the shop or shops and interviewing them about this problem. Getting an idea about how positive and willing they are to help you could eventually save you money and prevent disappointment.

For example, these symptoms may best be examined by on the water testing. Do they do that? If not, another shop that does and is agreeable to doing that could be a better choice.

Often, duplicating the fault is a big deal in finding the cause of an engine problem.

Just a thought.

Good luck and please update with what you find.

It's got a fuel restriction, after slowing down the VST fills up again and it will run normally until it's empty. Check you fuel line where it goes through the rigging grommet. Also try priming with the primer bulb when it starts stuttering to see if it recovers, could also be a weak low pressure pump.

After re reading looks like the problem follows the motor with portable or boat tank. Then I would check for a corroded needle and seat inside the vst.
