Honda 7.5 HP vertical shaft removal

Any suggestions on how to remove a seized vertical shaft, It's frozen to the crank shaft spline.

If it’s defo the splines, drain engine oil, invert engine, send a load of penetrating fluid down the shaft, pray and try again

I've worked on quite a few of these but have never had to deal with this problem so this is based on things I've read.from others and my opinion only.

Agree with Tony.

If you've already pulled the gearcase off, about all you can do is turn the outboard upside down and spray your favorite GOOD rust release product....

....PB Blaster...Aero Kroil...etc...(NOT WD-40!... unless it's their "RELEASE" labled stuff) or, possibly, a mixture of acetone and automatic transmission fluid.

Then wait.

You have to give the penetrant time to work itself into the joint.

Most people don't have adequate patience for this and start beating and banging much too soon.

As an example, the Aero Kroil is expensive but EXCELLENT and it can take weeks or months for it to "creep" through the rust on things that are badly bound up.

Anyway, spray it....wait.....find a way to get a good purchase on the shaft...like using vise grip pliers... then pull or TAP (no banging!) and see if it will move.

If not, spray again, wait some more and try again. OR, as they say, "rinse and repeat".

The secret to getting it out and not creating another problem is patience and don't force anything.

If you get frustrated and start pounding on it you'll probably ruin the thrust bearings in the bottom end or worse.

Here's hoping that yours isn't too badly siezed.
