Hole in Outer shell

Hello everyone, my 2004 honda 90 has developed a hole in the outer shell just above the lower unit. Mechanic tells me that it's a drain hole. I don't recall seen it ever in the past 7 years and I purchased the boat and motor brand new in 2004. Other versions of Honda outbourds do show a drain hole in this location. Anyone with a similar problem.

I do not know what it is, but it is not a drain.

Do you live in a rough area in Massachusetts? Could it be a bullet hole? LOL

It kind of looks like something is going on just to the left of it. Maybe some corrosion thing is going on?

You will have to drop the lower unit and inspect it from the inside. Maybe that will tell.

Does look like a bullet hole don't it? C:{.

Or, could someone have backed into you with something sharp? Those scratches around the hole and the "disturbance" just to the left of the hole looks sort of like a "pattern" of an object...MAYBE. I don't remember any drains in that area of any outboard I've ever seen. Does exhaust gas come out from the hole?

More questions than answers I'm afraid.

All, thanks for the replies. No it is not a bullet hole. It flaked out as if it was rust from undernead. After I brushed it off with bare hands and placed a screwdriver there, it went right thru.
