Wondering how many of you replace this filter/screen. My dealer says replace when problems happen but I seen a youtube video say replace every three years or so. one guy had an issue within 2 years it was black. I change all my filters once a year. This filter is $55 thats just nuts.

You didn't say what engine you have, but on the BF200/225 it's best to change them annually or every 100 hours, whichever comes first. A very large percentage of the running problems with those engines are often caused by a dirty or collapsed HP fuel filter. Draining the VST often will help them from getting clogged.

Forgot to mention, it's always best to have an external fuel/water separator (say, a Racor 10 micron), and drain it often, too. That's the very best thing you can do to keep the fuel filters clean.

It's a 2017 BF115 And yes i do have an external Fuel/Water separator filter and changed every year. And run NON-Ethanol fuel only. I'm lucky if I do 20 hrs a season it's mostly my MinnKota trolling motor has 4 times the hours lol.

Are you referring to item 39 in the link below?

I don't know but you may be able to cross reference a quality aftermarket filter and save some money. NAPA has cross reference charts for stuff like this and, even if you don't care to use their brand filter, you could cross their part number to another manufacturer's product. I personally think WIX and Baldwin are trustworthy but you can decide that for yourself.

Chawk_man knows what he's talking about when it comes to taking care of a Honda long term. And, even at that price point, I would be taking his advice as that could be some of the cheapest insurance I buy when compared to the headache and expense that little bugger could cause.
Just my opinion though.

I gotta say, I DO admire a fisherman that gets the most out of his trolling motor! You must be having TOO MUCH FUN!🎣

Yup that’s the little bugger. I’m all for proper maintenance. But for a paper filter it’s high robbery. But it is better spending $$$$$ for parts.
