Flush Port Leak

Noticed today when I fired up my BF225 for the first time that water runs out of where the flush port connector (starboard side) screws up to the plug fitting when not in use. Its basically a constant seep. Is there supposed to be an o-ring or washer on either end of this connection maybe?

Tattle tail hoes is ruptured. Remove stb, pannel and repace. Use only weed eater string to clean outlet. Thank's Martin

Martin thanks for the response. Its leaking right from the fitting that screws onto a garden hose to flush the engine. If I unscrew the fitting while its running, water slowly seeps out, when it is secured in place water seeps out.

The tattle tail pees normal all the time

At the other end of your flush hose is a check valve assy. #'s 14, 6, 8, 39, and 4 http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Outboard Engine/2005/BF225A5 XA /MOUNT CASE/parts.html
Most likely #8 is not seating correctly due to build up of salt, debris, corrosion, etc.

Sometimes, taking it apart and cleaning will fix it. Replacing the rubber o rings, gaskets, and possibly #8 will definitely fix it.

In the mean time....make sure there is a washer in the end that you would screw a garden hose to. It is just like a washer at the end of a garden hose. Part #3 http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Outboard Engine/2005/BF225A5 XA /EXTENSION CASE/parts.html
That should seal it up at that end.

Mike I do not see any kind of seal or seat on the garden hose fitting end at all. I had a hose nozzle washer handy in the garage and its to thick to screw the fitting back on. I have to order some other parts soon, so I may just order that part #3 along with some other things.

I quickly found that it was a PITA to constantly unscrew the flush port from it's base and attach a garden hose to the flush port. This was especially troublesome since I keep my boat on a lift most of the time. So I built a bypass using a T connector to run a flush hose to a snap hook on my transom, and there I installed a quick-disconnect hose fitting and a on-off hose valve. I'll try to post the picture, but if that fails, send me an e-mail at [email protected]

Nice idea for a boat on a lift for sure!

I'll have to order that little seat, I believe the piece that screw onto the hose fitting is missing this, and that is why it leaks.

I picked up a regular hose washer fitting, but that was too big and will not allow the attachment to screw on. So maybe the fitting Honda uses is special?

I think that you will find that the female connector itself is more shallow than a regular hose fitting and that is why it requires a thin O ring seal.

Exactly. I had to order some maintenence items anyway, so I went ahead and ordered the little "seat" for that.

Hey chawk!

Now don't take this the wrong way...(or anyone else, please) but I just had to say.......

.....WHooo whoo (wolf whistle)

Nice lookin' transom there fella!

;~)

Jimmy - great to hear you're still monitoring this forum, and great to here from you. That transom has been refurbished and repainted since that picture was taken. It really looks good now.
