Engine Oil for 200HP

My Honda Owners Manual specs for engine oil are SAE 10W-30 SG, SH, SJ. The Oil I purchased is Quaker State in the "SP" category and states it meets all previous standards. Am I ok with this?

Yes, you're good. Today's oils from the American Petroleum Institute (API) are formulated to be "backward compatible" with previous formulas. SP is the latest rating for gasoline fueled engines.

Just Google API if you really want to "get into it" and you can easily find charts and other information about how the oils for varying fuels are formulated and rated. IE: gasoline, Diesel and gaseous (CNG, LPG) fuel.

But watch out! It gets pretty deep and your eyes may cross while you start to nod off (as may be happening now as you read my ramblings :)

Goodonya though for being smart enough to ask!
