Hi guys,
I am new to this forum,so firstly would like to say Hi.

I have an issue with my Honda BF 60 A EFI 2012 model, with 380 Hrs on.

It idles rough and vibrates, after a while it smooths out and then it starts doing it again.

Please help, your input is appreciated.

Check to see if your SE thermal valve is working or it may be restricted with dirt it controls the fuel and air flow at idle .

Remove and clean the throttle body and IAC valve, replace spark plugs of old, adjust valve clearances and make sure the thermostat is not stuck open. Also check fuel pressure is correct, should be 35psi at idle. If all above is good it should idle smoothly. One thing to be aware of, BF60s all idle a little rough at cold start up but should be smooth once warmed up

I just want to say hi and welcome to the Forum. You have good advice from iang6766.

I would just add that you need to take care cleaning the throttle body. No harsh or gritty cleansers and no wire brushing or scrubbing pads. Be gentle!

Good luck

Hi guys.

Cleaned IAC valve and throttle body, replaced all three plugs. Do i test fuel pressure of low pressure pump or high pressure pump?.Please advise.
Thanks

Don't worry about fuel pressure at this point. When did your motor last have a proper service a d when was your high pressure filter replaced?

The motors were seviced 80 hrs ago.
New fuel lines,bulbs,plugs,high/low fuel filters, lower unit oil change,oil/filter changed, valve clearance adjusted.

I took the boat out over the weekend and ran for about 8 hrs total , excluding fishing time:).
On the way back the motor didnt go over 3800 rpms ,the starboard motor(same as the one in question ) revved all the way up to 5500 rpms no problem.

Do you have some more information, is it misfiring, have you tried pumping fuel with the primer bulb to see if it makes a difference, I might consider changing the high pressure filter because they are very small and block up easily

While running at 3800 my buddy pumped the bulb but no difference,i also thought maybe it was beeing starved of fuel, but no signs of it such as surging, motor runs smooth at those rpms but doesnt go further.
Btw i also checked for throtle travel on the cable and it is fine.

There is a bolt in the high pressure filter cover that takes a 12mm spanner, you remove that a d install an adapter with a 6mm thread and connect your gauge to that

Hi,

Tested fuel pressure under way and it stays between 43 at idle to 41 at 4000 rpms. It still does not go past 4000 rpms.

I checked throttle plate with motor off and found that it is not fully open(90 degrees) but slightly closed , +- 80 degrees, do you think this could be the cause ?
The other motor is the same though.

Also checked TPS and it is varying resistance as i open the throttle.

With the OBD connected and motor not running it does not change % of opening as i open the throttle.
Is this normal?

Do comparisons with the other motor, that is the easiest and quickest method. To answer your question, Key on and diagnostics connected you should see TPS go from 0 to 80% as you open the throttle. Fuel pressure should be 48psi at full throttle

Hi,

I sorted it out ,with your help. It was the connector to the ECU from the TPS sensor,it was a bit corroded and probably giving intermittent signal from the TPS to ECU .
Cleaned the contacts and applied dielectrical grease to them and tested today. Revs right up to WOT in a blink:). Happy chapie.
Thanks alot guys for the help, especially Iang6766,thanks mate, you have quite alot of knowledge there M8.
