Auto Blend service manual

I'm looking for the Auto Blend service or owners manual. It seems that NOBODY has EVER serviced their unit. The most common failure of ANY machine is a lack of maintenance. I had one on a boat years ago and it was totally reliable, but I serviced it regularly!

Today I have a NOS unit that I WILL install on my 1985 50HP Mercury. I just need the manual to make sure I'm not missing anything during the service.

Please keep your rude landfill comments to yourself. If you don't have the manual, or anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Remember what your mama taught you!

Thanks to those who have valid information to offer!

This is NOT a landfill remark but the truth. it was junk the day it was made and has burnt up a lot of engines. Ask any old Merc service rep and they will tell ya so if asked.

This fellow is adamant that it can be inspected , serviced and made to work properly !-----Have one here he can pick up for FREE.

Not meaning to be rude but what is an Auto Blend model?
The Auto Blend is a unit that goes between the gas tank and the motor. It mixes the oil at 50:1 before it gets to the motor. Most people have never serviced them, hence the bad reputation. There's a diaphragm that needs to be inspected every year, and a fuel filter that needs attention. They also have to be drained if they are going to sit for more than a few weeks. The passages gum up and the motor is destroyed due to a lack of lubrication. I know of units in use for over 20 years without a problem. Of course those are serviced regularly.

How many times did you see a service ticket for one of them?
25-30 damaged engines the first generation model AB. Service and warranty tickets first year around 75. Did not have many the after that as we did not install them do to field reps recommendations. We filled a dumpster at end of year with new units as Merc would not give credit return. I would not trust a diaphragm that is 25+ years old been laying on a shelf plus they do not work well in extreme cold weather like duck hunting. I would not recommend any of my customers to install on of these units. It mixes at 50/1 so why not mix your fuel anyway?

Excellent! As a former service manager, you might remember what the manual says, or you can contact a former coworker and get the service information. What is the service interval? Exactly what is involved in the service? THANK YOU for providing the information that I originally asked for! You may well be the hero in this quest for information.

The hero will be the guy who has to rebuild your motor when it fails.
IF it fails, it won't be from lack of oil. Any reputable Mercury technician will tell you that these units work fine when they're new. Would you care to make a wager on how long it takes for the motor to fail due to oil starvation? Put up your money...

Kind of odd getting blood pressure up worrying about a system that was obsoleted (by the factory) and replaced with a better design almost 30 years ago. A parallel conversation might be "Which do you think was the best year for the Chevy Vega" With good maintenance you drive that sucker almost 50,000 miles before it started smoking...LOL!

I would rather run an early VRO than that system. Save your money for the repairs you will cost yourself.

I have bypassed mine that was being used on a 75 Mercury Mariner. Just been mixing oil directly into the gas now. Not a big deal, but I see a lot of negative comments. Thought I might eventually hook it up again, but now I might completely remove it, and free up a little space.

Not the same thing. Not even close

Such a tremendous amount of hate over a request for information! Remember what your mama told you about saying nothing at all. And remember that it's my motor, not yours.
Is there anyone out there who has the maintenance requirements schedule? I would truly appreciate it!
