That little broken hose is NOT the issue with your motor.------My approach is to inspect stuff first before ordering new parts.-----So look at your pump and see if a wee speck of dirt on a valve might be the problem.----Off course if money is not a problem than all new is the correct approach.

I hate to always point at ethanol as the villan, but that little Fisherman Evinrude in the picture, still has the ORIGINAL fuel pump and fuel lines, squeeze bulb and tank hose. Check out this video sponsored by Yamaha Outboards.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX5JStae_X4.

ps. What the Yamaha tech fails to bring out with the phase separation and filtration, is that MUCH of the ethanol that is removed because it has mixed with water, is what contains the effective OCTANE in the fuel. Then your motor is running with substantially reduced octane. This can of course cause pre detonation and a host of other problems especially in motors not equipped with an ECM or electronic control modules to detect the problem and then compensate for it. In earlier 2 strokes we can observe piston damage and scoring since there are no mixture or timing controls to automatically compensate.

I understand the little hose isnt the problem but it still need replacing. I went ahead and order a fuel pump because everyone on here said they think thats my problem. Based on everything ive heard yall tell me I decided to replace all fuel lines and took the carbs off and cleaned them. People like you and timguy are why I came on here. Yall know what yall are talking about and I figured id save $75 a hour by not taking it to a shop. Thanks for all the advice. Ill let everyone know the outcome after i get all my parts. Of course I broke one of the nipples off the choke primer thing taking a line off

I have observed "stretched" and "tired" pump diaphragms that will pump but fall short of required output. This is due to rubber/synthetic composition and exposure to ethanol.

See anything that don't look right. This is my old fuel pump.

Thats the only 2 pictures it would let me upload for some reason. The new pump had a rubber gasket around where the filter screen is. The old one didnt

I see wrinkle in the fuel screen gasket and I also see some rust on the check valve reed bolts. What does the big diaphragm look like?

I finally got it to upload

Beautiful photos, it's a gonner, brother. Stretched out from ethanol. Rust on check valve reeds too. It could be carefully cleaned and rebuilt but it will be more likely to rust again. Did you watch that Yamaha video? Ethanol and boats or airplanes, is not a good mix.

This video is actually saying ethanol in concentrations over 10 percent is not allowed in the marine industry. My reasoning says; "Why use any at all"? We don't have too, if we have non oxy available.....lets protect our equipment. Ethanol is not the answer. It even causes early deterioration in our diesel fuels today. I cant use the new diesels in my Cat and Case tractors.....I will ruin them. Gotta use heating oil, then I fortify it with an Amsoil additive. My machinery runs perfectly and clean. The ethanol laced fuels have a very short and unstable shelf life, especially when stored in a vented system. As a veteran marine, auto, and heavy diesel mechanic, it is my job to not only repair and maintain equipment, but to educate my customers. Shops may avoid the truth.....there are lots of people making big money from the damaging effects of ethanol. We all pay for it, like it or not.

Off Subject Momentarily Here!

Tim.... I attempted to start my gas powered weed whacker (craftsman). It started, ran about 20 seconds and died.

Troubleshooting, I found the small fuel line leading from the carburetor to the entrance of the fuel tank cracked and falling apart. The bigger diameter pressure line from the carburetor to the tank seems okay (reused it). However the smaller line entering the tank as noted above was non-existent, gone, disappeared, as in not there. What was left of it was just a few tiny flakes here and there and the weighted filter it normally attached to.

Hmmm... Wonder who the villain was?

So looking at the pictures of the fuel pump would you guys say that was probably my problem? I haven't taken it out yet to see how it does. Thanks again!

I would say "problem likely solved". Let us know how she runs.
Joe, do you expect your generator to run at next hurricane? I hope that whatever got into your weed whacker to destroy that little tube isn't the same stuff you used in your generator.

Sold the generator Tim.... Thinking of buying a small motorhome. :)

OK so I got everything back together now it won't crank. Nothing happens when I turn the switch. We had the flywheel off looking at the stator and I replaced the voltage regulator. Is there anything I'm missing. I plugged in all wires exactly where they came from?

Finally got to take it out today. She ran really well. I think we got it. Any ideas why that fuse blew? Thank you all again for all the help. If someone guides me through it I can normally fix it. I'm just not good at diagnosing.

I had all these unhooked but I hooked them back up like they were. I also had the stator unhooked. Everything look like it's screwed back in the right place?

Fuses blow because you have a short somewhere.-----Bare wire touching metal , that sort of thing.-----Wiring INSIDE the harness touching each other due to heat damage.----Up to you to find it.
