2003 Honda BF130 - Bad Compression ?

Have an ‘03 with 1700 hours, problems started as rough idle progressed to motor stumbling for several minutes before enough power to get boat on plane. When I started to troubleshoot I found water on dipstick and in cylinder #3. Took for a compression check and found the following:
#4-90
#3-125
#2-165
#1-190
Also water found in cylinder 4 during compression test

Obviously something is wrong, could be cracked block or potentially a bad head gasket. Is there any way to confirm what the issue is without removing the head ? I would prefer to not spend money to rip the motor apart to find the problem if I am missing something obvious.

Thanks,
John

I would do a cylinder leakdown test on the THREE low cylinders prior to disassembly.

Since your results are all over the place, #4 isn't the only hole with "issues" and having some baseline data may prove to be valuable to you when making repair decisions going forward.

Good luck.

No expert on 130's, but I have found that if a 40-90 hp Honda is over heated accidentally, that often the head gasket (and maybe some others) will be damaged to the point something like this might happen.

So the question is, has this motor been overheated and repaired recently?

The 130HP Honda had rot issues in the cylinder head... I would not waste my time pulling it down. Replace it with a 135 Honda.

Bet the head gasket is pushing out the port side of the engine.

Have the exact same problem with Honda 130 that is almost 20 years old. cylinders two and three Low compression 160 psi in one and four. 130 and 120 into and three. Runs rough.
Interestingly, just like you said, there is corrosion and pushing gasket on the port side of the engine. Plus the slightly wet, spark plugs is a good indication…
Given that this is a 20-year-old motor, even though it generally runs pretty well, sounds like, from this forum, it would be best to replace it with a 135. Or something else. appreciate the advice.

Yip, I certainly wouldn't throw money at a motor that old
