2003 BF225 Chasing Alarms

Hi all,
Looking for help chasing an alarm issue on my circa 2003 BF225 please. I think was getting an overheating alarm but now it's another alarm and I'm sick of chasing this.
Engine ran fine on muffs earlier this Spring.
A few weeks later(still on muffs), it was slow to telltale and alarms started after 2 mins or so.
I have tried several things so far, to no avail.
The paperclip error code method suggested O2 sensor, so I changed that even though I suspected overheating.
Also new impeller, new T-stats, new O2 sensor, new spark plugs, new fuel filters (HP and LP).
There is no water in the fuel. None.
I dropped the lower unit and hooked up a pump to a vinegar bath overnight for several hours. Some sediment. Flushed with clean water for an hour after.
Engine starts fine and telltale runs immediately (thanks to the new T-stats, I presume) but immediately get alarm with intermittent tone ( a solid 1 sec on, one second off).
I have not yet changed the knock sensor (it appears to be somewhat buried and hard to access).
Before I bite the bullet and change the knock sensor, is there anything else to try?

Hi,
Sorry you're having problems. I don't work on these so I can only take a guess based on things I've read here.
A few people have written that the water hoses at the exhaust manifolds on the V-6 engines get plugged. See items 6, 7, 8 and 9 in the link below. You might find a problem there.

Sadly, I have also read accounts of sediments in the engine that requires disassembly to clean out.
I will look for a post that describes that and, if.I can locate one, I will link it to this thread.

Good luck.

Yes, as JGMO suggested, pull the exhaust hoses and check for blockages.

There is a temp sensor on the block, under the heads. That's the one that usually triggers an oveheat alarm.

See attached on how to pull codes, and what the codes mean. First, check codes and write them down, then clear codes. Then run the engine until it alarms, then pull codes. Let us know what you get.

BTW - running on muffs will usually cause an overheat alarm on these engines. A garden hose simply does not provide enough water to cool the beast. Best test in a barrel with continuously running water.

I jumped the blank with lime wires as described and got the lights below. I'm still not sure what the count on these light blinks is. Anbody like to jump in and tell me what they think?

i get one long light, one long gap, folllowed by four short lights and blip of one at the end. I find it a bit confusing and I don't know if that's 14 or 15 (15 is not on the sheet, I know so is it 14?).
Thanks

UPDATE:
Cleared the error code, got the two beeps (which I now realize I did NOT hear last time I thought I cleared it). Started up and ran great on muffs for 15 mins. Decided to wait and repeat the exercise a few hours later. Ran on muffs for 25 mins at less than 1000 rpm with no overheating and no alarms. The real test will be in the water under load but it's now running on muffs without issue, the way has every Spring since I've owned it.
Thank you all for your suggestions and help troubleshooting.
