I had just bought a 1999 Ranger Cherokee 207 with Johnson 90hp model J90pleeb it has been sitting for 2 years. Before trying to start I am going thru everything I can think of. starting to go thru fuel system and the fuel line is full of oil and even in the carburetors I took one of the brass screws out of what I am assuming is float bowel and oil came out of there to. Is it possible that oil from the oil injecting sucked back in over time thru the hole system. I am new to the outboard motor seen but been around boats all my life. Question is how do I get all the oil out of fuel tank and I am assuming that I need to pull off carburetors and clean and go thru. I have been trying to find some place were I can find out the workings of outboards and oil injection system. Thanks for your help please.

Drain the oil in oil tank and check the oil cap vent as if stopped up it will pressurize from temp changes and force oil thru the VRO pump and into the carbs...

Ok thank you faztbullet I went ahead and drained the float bowls do you is there any other line I should drain I also flushed gas tank with fresh gas and drained. I see your with KDBA not knowing how old you are do you know of DiMarco boats of CA.

How do I determine if it a 60 degree or 90 I guess it makes a difference in taking off the lower unit one you shift in forward the other reverse

???------------The angle between cylinders.----------The only reason to use forward gear is for the shift shaft to clear the carburetor on a 60 degree looper.

Ok guys I need help again I got fuel tank all cleaned out put in new gas mixed with oil ( in case injection doesn't work) tryed to start it. It starts if I push in key to choke it then dies right away. Some times it will idol a couple seconds then dies if I throttle it right away I get higher Rams them dies like shutting of key. Any ideas? Remember it sat for a couple years.

Will it run if you contiually pump the bulb? (assuming you have it oriented with the arrow pointing towards the engine) If not, then you should think about disassembling and cleaning the carbs.

787031 is the part number.

It will tell you to clean all passages....but it will not tell you the details of such passages.
It will not tell you how to disassemble and re-assemble. It will give you drawings.

Those carbs are simple anyway.

Since you have plastic carbs, you MUST clean the throttle bodies too. They are part of the whole carburetion system.

Ok thank you I'll just take my time I guess they need to be completely disassembled I just worry about if there's little things inside like springs or such that fall out. Thanks for help

I cannot tell you how many postings I have made on here and at Iboats regarding cleaning the throttle bodies.
Throttle bodies on the plastic carbed models have the idle fuel metering function. So, you stalling immediately after starting screams idle fuel passage problems.

Search my username plus the phrase "throttle bodies" on both sites and read.

In your particular case, it probably would not work. Too much time has passed, and that gum and varnish will need to
be manually cleaned out. Spray carb cleaner will not get to the places that need cleaning most.

I forgot to add in a post above that, NO, there will be no springs, etc, that will fly out.
Carbs are very simple. The most intricate part inside is the needle and seat / float, and it is very simple too.

Just watch what you are doing, work on a white towel to catch dropped parts....PM me if you have a question, and we can talk on phone to walk u thru it.
