    fuel line size for 87' 48spl

    final added a fuel filter, because several time last summer float got stuck, may help, may not ,will see. question is 5/16 line ok? brass fitting on filter housing are 1/4. ok?

    rusty stern bracket thrust rod removal 87' 48spl

    well I let it go too long, thrust rod has been in one place along time, now installing trim/tilt unit, need it gone or at least the bent end gone, tried sawing it but once past rust my blades (harbor freight, going to the box store)didn't touch it. anyone had any luck cutting one off?

    87" 50 hp different pistons ?

    new to me 50hp, sold as parts motor(but last sold 6 years ago as a runner, but never installed) so compression is 140 and 130, ok, so removed head to take a look for scoring and change thermostat, no scoring, but head damaged and pistons don't match. have an extra head, no problem there. But...

    having the top cylinder not firing, electrical stuff is good( two days of testing and changing parts), talking with local shop, he said could be to much gas, really?, carb cleaned several times, its good, soooo ,just took pump off side of engine and squeezed bulb, should gas come out pulse hole...

    here in VA there's a new reg. that a kill switch has to be in use, my POS project boat needs one. Question ( think i know) is the kill circuit normally open or closed? open, right?

    1984 70 hp thermostat

    just got a 84 70hp and changed thermostat, yah OEM and sierra are very different, also new OEM bypass spring different then what came out and 2 springs really!. so as it stands now, plastic stat and 2 different springs( only ordered 1 before) and relief valves. ran one day no alarms, pee stream...

    1986 90 hp maybe new to me

    looking a used boat with 90hp , what compression numbers should i look for? Minimum? and is 1986 one of the years with ring/ piston problems? seem to remember some years piston ring was to close to top of piston and top edge would chip.

    winter time, nothing to do dumb question

    on my 87' 48spl its about time to check/change the thermostat,(been 2 years in salt) located down by the lower bottom cylinder, a real PITA to get too. on the 89' engines they moved the thermostat to the top of the head. they both use the same head gasket, so i'm think'n same cool'n passages...

    so I messed up the high speed jet trying to remove it from one carb.. the threads are ok in the bowl. looking for the part on this site, a 50D is $58 bucks but looking around, a 51D is only $13, (2 for the price of one). Sooo the question is any chance one size larger will do any damage...

    took gear case apart and found no broken parts, the problem was only forward gear or was it only reverse (had a spare gear case and just swapped units this summer now the other one is bad got to fix one), this happened in a wierd way, while putting boat on trailer with motor tilted the motor...

    water pump key or pin

    going to change water pump during gear case rebuild but got a question. drive shaft takes a half moon key like a fly wheel key, but all pump kits ether offer pin or wedge impeller keys, i know the wedge won't work. so will the pin type key work in the half moon key way in the drive shaft? 1987...

    hi progator, was wondering if you'd got things adjusted good from last years posts, guess not. i went through your same problem. i know every engines different this is a pic of mine. after rereading the link-n-sync in my manual i'd say mines a little off, the roll is just above the lower mark...
