Will this tach work?

Do you have the tach plug on the controls? I dont see why it wont work the tach sense gets wired to one of the stator wires to the rectifier. Key on hot to + and ground to - then you set the switch on the back to the proper pulse setting.

You will need either a tach adapter #17461t9 to make it work or find a original OEM tach that was a option for that engine. It is smaller in diameter than other tachs with a chrome bezel.

I have found a tach wire at the control. I tested for AC voltage and it responds like a tach signal in a car engine. Could you explain to me why I need the tach adapter or why I couldn't just use one of the settings? I'm not sure, but from reading, I think that my motor is a 12 pole and the tach does have a 12 pole option.

Thanks for the help, I know car engines very well, but I'm new to boats. I'm used to just grabbing a tach signal from a coil.

I have a Seloc manual for my motor and I have found a signal wire at the throttle control. I will grab power and ground from my distribution block.

That rectifier that you posted is for the generation after mine. Mine is a clone of the 81-83 generation. I was under the impression that my engine was a 12 pole. The tach that I posted has a 12p setting so I was unclear as to why I would need a tach adapter.
