What year BF 9.9?

I have several outboards but recently acquired a Honda 9.9 4-stroke. My first 4-stroke outboard. But dang, figuring out what year is tough, at least for me. Cowl says "2006 EPA Standard", so I assume 2006 or newer. Serial is BABS-1600782. At least I think it's a 6 for the 2nd digit. Model is BF9.9A. I could use some help please. Would love to post pics but can't figure out how.

Not really an EX-spurt (a drip that was under pressure at one time) but....

All BF9.9 outboards manufactured 2001 and later are designated as "D" models.

Your frame number (1600782) indicates that your outboard is a year 2000 "A" model. See the link below.


I don't know what's up with the 2006 emissions sticker but I'm guessing someone may have just slapped it on there OR, if it's on the hood, then maybe that it's a replacement for a lost or damaged one.The same might apply if it's on a lower side cover. Just guessing though.

The 2006 stickers mean the out board meets the 2006 incoming emissions standard, my 1999 has that sticker. So at least 1999 forward could have the stickers.
 
I think those new 2006 emissions standards caused the demise of the 2 stroke, only the etec and one merc survived them.
 
The old 2 strokes could live with a lot of abuse, unlike 4 strokes. They were smoky and noisy, plus simple.
