What keeps proper firing order?

Hey,

I'm back with another question, since I'm new to outboards & 2 strokes in general I'm wondering what part of the engine provides the firing order on my 1990 Mercury Classic 40 HP outboard? Basically said, what acts as the distributor to maintain order?

The trigger and hub magnets on flywheel.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that the stator?

No. "Stator" is part of the word "stationary". It's bolted to the top bearing carrier.

????------------Timing on most modern motors does not go out of adjustment for the life of the motor.-------Why are you asking this question ? ---Running problems with your motor ??

I am rebuilding the motor, I figured it could be possible that something maybe out of adjustment after taking it all apart & putting it back together.
