Water Tube Help

I have a 1993 Evinrude 120. Water comes out of the pee hole, but not with great pressure. When I changed the water pump last year, I noticed the previous owner had used pliers of some sort and messed up the rounded edge at the bottom of the water tube. I suspect there is not a perfect seal, so some water is pumped up the water tube, but not all of it and not at the correct pressure. I purchased a new tube and gasket on eBay, but I have not attempted to change it yet. What is involved with replacing the water tube? This is my second year owning this boat, so I am still learning a lot. I am going to check the thermostats and their housing for crud before I change the tube, but I want to see what I am getting in to. Also, is the copper water tube standard 1/2" or 3/4"? Could I in theory cut off the bad section and solder on the new section with a female to female copper fitting?

Ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Unless they've changed the design from high hp earlier models, the water tube is connected to the bottom of an adapter plate with a fitting that is secured with two screws/bolts.

You need to removed the lower unit, the powerhead, then the adapter plate that the powerhead sits upon, then you can get at the water tube retainer fitting.

It's no big deal to round out a bent water tube with long nose pliers. However, if the tube has been shoved upwards via a failed lower unit install.... that's another matter.

Sounds like a pretty big job. I will check the thermostat and housing first. Maybe those or the lines are full of crud. If not, I will try to straighten out the tube bottom a little more.

Thanks for the tips.

Aaron

I think I found part of the issue. The whole was completely clogged. I don't know how any water was getting through there. Thanks everyone, I will let you know what I find out after ordered parts and getting it running.

Anyone have any suggestions for what type of tubing to use to replace the tubing for the water circulation? Mine is dry rotted in spots and cracking. I figured, while I have it apart, I might as well replace what I can.

Thanks,
Aaron

If you're talking about the tubing that looks like fuel line.... that's exactly what it is, available at auto part stores, hardware stores, etc.

Yes, it is hard rubber tubing. Maybe 3/8" ID or so. Just a guess. I guess I will go get some fuel line. I wasn't sure how hot the tubing would get around the motor, so I didn't know if I needed anything special. I will stop and see if they can match it up locally.

Thanks,
Aaron
