"I have a 1999 Four Winns Horizon with a Volvo Penta 5.0GL engine. It starts, it runs, it quits. Fuel pump is good, fuel relay is good. Upon starting, power is getting to the relay in order to close it. When in normal run, the relay is not getting power to close, therefore the fuel pump won't run.

I've heard there are two sources of power to the relay. One is from the starter switch--it's fine. Another from the alternator. On one board, an oil pressure switch was mentioned. I have been unable to locate it--is there one, and if so, WHERE is it?"

"Thanks, Mike for your quick reply. Our engine, however is a GL, not a GS. I couldn't find an oil pressure switch anywhere.

The wire is green at the alternator, and turns orange at the relay. There is a yellow with a red stripe for the starter. I figured out there was only 1.7 volts of power getting to the relay during engine run.

Would you happen to have a wiring print of the fuel system/harness for a GL?

And, a part # for the diodes and their location on the harness.

Thanks again,
Chuck"

"Found corrosion on the wires, cleaned them up, and then ran in driveway for 15 minutes.

Took out on the water, and it quits again. Direct wired bypassing relay, started shakily, ran, then quit.

Any ideas?"

I had the exact same problem.

I had the exact same problem. Finally gave up and took it to the Cobalt dealer and paid the price. The diod in the alternater was burned out. You can check this by bypassing the alternater for the power source to the fuel pump. Let me know how you come out. -Greg.
