Vertical shaft bushing

This is a long shot. Trying to find what the wear limit sizes are on the vertical shaft where the bronze bushing goes in the extension case . There is nothing in the service manual . Right now I have a difference of .008 which to me is a lot. I was thinking somewhere around .002 clearance.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I don't have the knowledge to answer your question directly.

I assume that you are talking about the gap between the bushing and the raised section on the drive shaft. If that is correct, then just recognize that the purpose of that bushing is simply to stabilize any flex in the drive shaft created by the torque between the engine drive shaft and the lower end gearing. So, fairly loose tolerance should not be too harmful. I've heard that some owners have just removed the bushing altogether. But I don't recommend that. But the cure should be simple, just replace the bushing.

If you are talking about the outer surface of the bushing where it mates to the slot in the extension case, then a hard filler, like JB weld should fix that problem rather easily.

Thanks chalk man. I’m used to tighter tolerances in a bushing like that. I just figured since I’m rebuilding the whole lower drive unit that I would just replace everything. At least when i put it back together I can have peace of mind that I don’t have to worry about anything.
Thanks again,
G
