Hi I was wondering if someone could tell me what this hole is and if it is supposed to have something connected to it. when running, water pours out of it and into the case. The motor is a 1989 Johnson gt 175.

My guess would be it's where the fitting goes for the overboard water indicator hose.

AS Boobie says but see the parts diagram and list for the cylinder and crankcase on this site for all the detail ( elbow, hoses, 30° tee etc)

That's what I was thinking off but if those hoses are in position that's not the answer to your problem

Would you have any other guesses as to what it could be.

That hole does not belong there.----Use suitable pipe tap.----Install a pipe plug.

Just looked at a 1982 model 235 Hp-----Yeah the same motor and parts.-------It is painted over but it looks like there is a core plug there.---Exact same spot.

What does a core plug do? And is it something you can replace?

It was plugged with aluminum plug ..that a big bore 175. Just install a brass plug
