Trim rebuild BF50

I have a small leak in my trim cylinder on my BF50, causes it to drop down after a few days. Are there any options to rebuild/repair this short of sending it out for a $550 rebuild? I would think replacing the seals would be a reasonable and low cost winter project but can find no resources on a seal kit or anything like that.

What is your frame number. Or, if you have year sold and if it's a carbed or efi would be close enough to look up parts.

I don't know how comprehensive the section on trim would be in the shop manual but I'm guessing it likely covers seal replacement.

Hi,
After looking at and reading the seection on gearrcase removal for the 225 outboard, which has a very ximilar shift rod set up, it appears that shift rod "A" is expected to come away from shift shaft "A" when the gearcase is pulled away from the extension case.
This indicates that there's nothing holding shift rod "A" in shift shaft ""A" other than friction and possible corrosion, dried grease and dirt in the splines.

ALTHOUGH...it doesn't actually say all that directly.

It is my opinion that you can safely use moderate force to pull the shift rod splines out of the shift shaft splines but take into consideration that you do not want to dislodge the snap ring holding the bushing and washer on the shift shaft as it would be almost impossible to put those back on without more disassembly.
