temperature alarm

I have a 2008 mercury 60 hp big foot . I'm getting a temperature alarm while underway when I go over 3000 rpm. Seems to be pumping water ok . while in neutral I don't not get this alarm not matter what the rpm.

Pull the t-stat and poppet housing and clean, then start and rev it up(not over 3000rpm) to flush block as the small rectangle port tends to trap debris...

thanks for the info . I have pulled the t-stat and did find small piece of debris on it , but I don't know what you mean by a poppet housing
