Tach Problems 2004 75 hp

I have a 2004 Honda 75 . The tach was working fine till last year now at idle reads OK at full throttle it goes off the chart . I checked the grounds on my motor they are good. Please help

The tach gets its voltage from the ignition control module. Assuming the connections are ok, most likely, there is an issue with the tach.

One easy thing to try....is use a small screwdriver and rotate the screw that selects the setting for different motors. Note where the position from where you starting and then rotate it back and forth over several different positons.

Then put it back to the original postion. Sometimes, the contacts get corroded and causes the tach to misbehave. Sometimes this will clear it up.

In addition to Hondadude's recommendation and depending on your type of tach, also clean all the connections to the tach. If it is a Honda tach with the modular plug, remove and clean the plug connections, and make sure they are tight.
