Surging BF50D 4stroke

Just replaced the impeller and thermostat. Motor starts and runs smooth for15-20 secs, then begins to surge until it stops. It is also blowing water out the exhaust port.
While in there I did find a water outlet that was not connected and was filling motor case with water. Reconnected but no joy.
Anybody got an idea?
Thanks in advance,
Ken

Also the starboard pee hole has no piping to it.

Hi,

Did it start all this AFTER you replaced those parts? Running GREAT before?
Maybe a little more "back story" might help someone help you.

I'm no expert on these....never worked on one. But here are some ideas:

Have you checked the fuel/water separator?

You might want to drain the vst and catch contents in a clear container to check for contaminates.

I believe item 20 in the link below is the tube that goes to the tell-tale fitting. It may have just come loose somehow.

Good luck.

Sorry, I think I was thinking of a.60hp....I don't think that the 50 has an on board fuel/water separator.

Hi Ken,
I had a BF50D blowing water out the exhaust port. Turned out to be a corrosion hole
from the water jacket to the exhaust. Hoping this is not your problem ,as I had to replace
the complete block. A quick check is remove oil cap & check for milky froth.
Best of luck.
