sudden vibration with my bayliner

I have a 1987 bayliner capri, 3.0 liter omc. While boating at a slow speed, all of the sudden the boat started to vibrite for no reason. I stopped quickly, raised the lower unit, check to see if anything was wrapped around the prop and to check any damage. Nothing around the prop, no damage to it either. I continued a move at slow speed, still vibriting so moved it up to 3 to 4000 rpm's and it stopped. I then brought it back to slow and continued on. As time went on the vibration became less and less. By the time I got back to the dock, there was still a vibration but not really to bad. My question is, what would cause it to suddenly start to vibrite, then slowly go away. Any advice would be helplful. thanks Jim

No vibration in neutral, I never used reverse after the vibration started, drove it forward, right on the trailer and home. I'll be taking the boat out this weekend, will check reverse then.
