"Greetings Group, Can you tell
"Greetings Group, Can you tell me if there is any truth to the story that some marine machnic told me when i told him i owned a 1977 stringer, behind a Ford 351 with electric shift. He said that i was sitting on " a time bomb ". Claims the casing on the electric magnets breaks down, letting 12 volt current put both forward and reverse gears in play at the same time, blowing the lower unit.
This sounds like BS to me, because the magnets are in oil, so how can they break down. I have heard that the switch controlling the forward/reverse magnets, have caused this problem.
Can someone please set the record stright on the electric shift problems for this model out drive. If there is something i can learn to prevent a problem, now is the time to do it. Thanks people, Herb"
