Starting engine and other questions.

I finished installing my GM inline six. It has all OMC parts. I do not have the outdrive installed, but have the intermediate housing bolted up. I want to start my engine before installing the outdrive. What can I do to cool the engine when I start it. There is a cooling line from the thermostat housing to the rear of the intermediate housing. Can I install a flush kit hookup to this line as used in auto flush kits. And if I introduce water from a garden hose should I be concerned about flooding my exaust manifold? Also should I have put any sealant on the bolt threads used to install my manifold? I normaly clean the threads on all my bolts, run a tap into the threaded holes and put a little grease on them. I also used a little grease on some gaskets. Fuel line, should it be stainless or copper as I think its not a good idea to run a rubber fuel line from the fuel pump to the carburator. Any helpful info greatly appreciated. Island Boy.

Metal fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb. See thru hose to the overflow to the carb.

Yes you can do it the way you described, water that is.

You ran it out of the boat yet ? With out the drive on just hook the riser to the exhaust tube, and the water will flow normal, and just come out the exhaust just won't have a drive to exit.

No sealant on the bolts you did well so far. I actually use a drop of oil or grease on the threads.

Brake line, or any auto store will have what you need for the fuel line.

Good luck !

You can probably get away with running the engine "dry" for a minute or so as long as it has a full pan of oil. If this is just to reassure yourself that the engine is not a dead lump then go ahead. If it fires, there's no point in doing much more than checking for oil leaks as the tuning will have to wait until it is in the water. If it fires up, pat yourself on the back and get busy finishing it all up so you can get out there!
