Snowblower motor in boat

Spent a afternoon rebuilding the transmission in my craftsman 3 stage snowblower.

I had to split it in half, then laying on a freezing cold garage floor, for more then 4 hours, got the back half back together. There are 3 chains that drive the wheels and the shaft that drives the auger.

So shall we say i know the insides of this tank better then the inside of my wife of 25 years you know what.

I had to wait for my football playing son to get get home from school to help me get the two half's together, i swear the f--king thing must weigh 200 pounds if it weighs a pound. 15 years old he can lift a fridge by himself.

So after being bored chitless cause this freekin cold weather and snow got me down i pose this question.

To keep this boating related, and just for the 'ell of it anyone ever think of installing a air cooled small engine in a small boat. Drive the prop with a chain ?

I have a sears 3 hp air cooled outboard that shoots the small jon boat across the lake like a raped ape.

Me thinks i shouldn't even post this thread, but what the f why not.

If anyone could make it work it would be you Chief! Don't feel bad, I have 4 snow blowers and 3 out of 4 had the pull cords ripped out of them by the guys that work for me! lol The salt eats the pull cords up pretty good so I guess one or two were due but 3 is brutality. Pray for spring!

What you need is one of these and stop messing with the little stuff and in the spring and summer this will definatley make you boat goooooo..........

yep, boredom for me has set in, imagine taking KGHOST's blower and hooking that up to a paddle wheel on a boat.

It has been the longest and hardest winter that I can recall! I can't wait til the birds start chirping, the grass and flowers start growing, and the stripers start biting! It won't be too long now! kghost, you could mount that thing on a Michigan loader lol. And yes Chief, I am bored and sick of sitting in the house for the last two months. (totally sucks) lol. Hang in there men, Tom

Bad winter for sure. Goes in cycles i guess, last 15 years or so was not so bad.

87'-88' was bad, worse then this twice over. It was the first year in my first house. My wife was about 7 months preggers with my first child.

I came home after working 18 hours straight. Took 4 hours for a 45 minute drive. No cell phones back then. I was more then a little worried, my wife was there alone. I was trying to make a living working long hours, maybe some of you can relate.

Anyway i get to a block away from my home, the main street was just passable, i was driving a 77' ltd, i just could not get down my block, no where to leave the car and go on foot, so i got out my shovel, still have a it short handled square head.

3 hours to dig down the middle of the street half way to my house, and i drove the car in, then dug another 3 hours, to get to my driveway. Drove my car to the front of my house.

I was i dripping in sweat in a tee shirt, jeez it was colder then i ever remembered. None of my neighbors were home, the guys were all at work i guess, they were firemen and policemen. We all knew each other and helped each other. I was alone, it was snowing and the back of my car already had like 6 inch's of snow on the pavement.

I tried to walk to the side door i couldn't the snow and ice would give under my foot and i sunk up to my waist.

So keep in mind after 18 hour day about 4 hour drive and about 5 hours of digging, i started digging out my driveway. another 2 hours to dig enough to get my car into my driveway to keep the street clear for the plows, i get the car into the driveway and i dig wide enough to walk to the side door.

Another 15 minutes or so i dig enough to open the screen door outward.

I get into the house side door up a half flight is the living room, down a half flight is the basement my mud room so to speak and i get down there and collapse on the floor, i chit thee not, i must have gone into some kind of shock, never happened to me before. The heat of the house or exhausted. 2 tours viet-nam, 1 year rome ny on a air force base i've been in cold hunting, but never had that happen to me.

My wife was up on the third floor in the shower didn't hear me come in.

I woke up about 3-4 hours latter, looking into her face. She was just fine. 3 more kids and a different house in the woods of nj i sit and write this.

So too this winter will pass and we will talk about it in the coming years.

When I retired from active duty and left Maine, I got my snowblower out and pushed it south until someone asked what I was pushing. I'm home.
We do get snow from time to time in sunny VA Beach, but at least no one expects me to do anything until it melts. There's one peice of mechanical frustration eliminated from my arsenal... seems I remember never having the right size roll-pin everytime one sheared off from hitting a rock, curb, frozen cat, or some such invisibly burried object where I thought the driveway ought to have been.
