scepter 12 gallon tank

hey guys so I bought a boat last year with a 70hp jhonson. it came with a 12 gallon scepter tank that was 1 month old. since ive had the boat ive had problems with it sucking the ball flat. I have a old 6 gallon tank and it runs on it with 0 problems. I thought it was a venting issue so i added a vent on the 12 gallon tank and it still does it. so i took both tanks apart took thr pickup tube out of both. I noticed the screen on the old tank has much larger holes than the new 12 gallon tank. could this screen possibly be the problem. If it is can I make the new scree holes larger or something else to remedy it

gas goes through it well enough to start and run the engine until the ball goes flat. im thinking its got something to do with the fine screen getting clogged up. The only difference between the old 6 gallon tank and the new 12 is the screen size in the pickup tube. Like I said it runs fine on the 6 gal and not the 12. The difference being the scree size
 
Cut the screen off of the bottom of the pick up in the tank. Then install a filter in the fuel line right outside the tank pick up.

I took a pick and made the holes bigger in the screen of the pickup tube. if that doesn't work il take it off completely. Someone added a inline filter to the motor before i bought it.
