Rusted exhaust manifold

I’ve got a 67 Mercruiser 120, 153 cu. in Chevy 4 cylinder, the exhaust manifold has a rust hole on top of the rear exhaust port. Can this be welded or am I looking at replacing it? I would preferably replace it with a good one. The casting number is 35891 and has a 1964 thru 72 year range. I’ve searched eBay with no luck. Are there any salvage yards that specialize in used parts that anyone knows of?

Not able to weld cast iron, needs replaced

The 2.5L 153 cu in exhaust manifold is part number 63122A14

There are some Merc but also BARR mans

Is there a difference between the casting number and the part number? The part number on the diagram on marineEngine website is 53891 and also the casting number on the manifold itself. I don’t see any number that you provided

I just looked up the part number that you listed, this part is listed for Mercruiser 1972-78. My motor is a late 66

The number he lists covers '67 thru into the 80's. (FITS 153 CID 110 hp (not many made & discontinued after 66)/120 hp ONLY - The 181 CID 140 hp used a similar but different manifold). Also covers some earlier '66 models with the fwd t-stat. As I explained in your other post (2 posts wasn't a good idea) the serial number & pictures are needed.
I'm (we) are trying to help you, help us help you. So please post the s/n & pictures as soon as you get them.

Again MerCruiser had 4 different manifold assemblies from 1962/1963 until they stabilized production in later 66/67. The changes didn't exactly coincide with model years. And as I explained way back in your gearcase thread boat factories may have last years engine going into this years boat.

You say this boat has been in your family since 1970. Boat manufacturers had no government mandated serial number format until Nov 1972. This format is called the MIC or manufacturers identification code. Most (if any IDK) states didn't require titles until years later. So paperwork as in titles created after the fact frequently contain errors. Is this boat truely a 1967? If yes, it's easy for me to believe it has a 1966 engine. But a rear mounted t-stat model is harder to believe.

The rear mounted t-stat manifold is hard to find. If that is truly what you have, I suggest finding the complete manifold/riser/top cover/front cover/cyl head mounted t-stat housing/carburetor & linkage all from a 1967 or later engine.

This is a tag on the inside of the transom, it’s stamped SS 165 V. C67006. SS 165 is a Slickcraft model, and C 67006 is March of 67 and 6th off the line, early 67, that probably explains the 66 engine that was left over for the following year, which also explains why the out drive was originally painted white. I located a manifold but have not seen it in person to verify it’s correct yet

And in post #1

I’ve got a 67 Mercruiser 120, 153 cu. in Chevy 4 cylinder......

As for casting numbers, castings are machined into finished products that become the actual part number. That being said, Mercury typically uses the same core # but adds prefix and/or suffix to identify.

In post 3 above you typed 53891 & that threw me until I realized you reversed the 3 & 5.

Yes that is a rear t-stat manifold. Maybe you found the needle in the haystack used.

I’m glad you caught that! They want $300 for the manifold, I guess I’ll have to pay that if it turns out to be the correct one.

That seems fair. Hopefully the complete assembly & not a salt water unit.
Boat isn't much good if it doesn't run.

It should be a fresh engine part being its from Michigan. I can always use the boat as a row boat
