running hot

hello. i have a 2000 mercury 150 carbureted outboard.i just put it in the water today for the first time this year.the temp gauge is reading 3/4 of the way up when cruising.it normally used to read half way when warmed up.before i started it ,it was reading low(normal),and climbed as it warmed up.when running slow it reads half way but the faster i go the hotter it gets.it did not go over 3/4.i put brand new mercury thermostats in it this morning,i noticed at the end of last year it was running slightly hot.one of the old thermostats was bad(bent).could i possibly have a bad impeller? i havent replaced it in about 5 years.are there any other common problems with these engines.thanks

looks like i have a similar problem to kingfish22.i did not know there was a poppet valve .is a 2000 the same as a 1998

Replace impeller as weak.....

put the water pump in last night and took it out today.running cool.thanks for help
