Have a Fastwin 68' I think, can't find any identification on motor. I think it is a 18 hp. ? Customers motor, before my time . brought to shop , not running.
I found spark at 1 cylinder only. Ordered points and condensers and installed , set gap at. .020 , 1 charge coil is green other is black. I assuming the black 1 is newer? Cranked motor and was really surprised at how easy it was to start. It had no water coming from mid shaft port hole ( above water line).
Cranked motor 5-6 times, it fired half a pull each time. Didn't run motor very long, just to see if it would go into gear. Ordered impeller 18-3002 . installed today. I went to crank motor , didn't fire, removed flywheel and found one set of breaker points had closed to about .008 . Now these points have straight screw heads and the adjuster screw. On the adjuster screw side the points seem to want to ride up an close gap. What is the trick to keep the gap.
