I was talking to a fella and he swears by useing the additive RING FREE, it removes carbon build up in the combustion chamber and he says that he ran one of his 2 strokes for 10000 hours. ANY THOUGHTS ANY BODY ELSE USE IT HERE? Sounds like good stuff to me.

Been around for years and nearly all the customers I know that have DI engines use some form of decarbonizer. I use it.. The brands are Yamaha ring free, OMC carbon guard,Mercury Quickleen,

Ring Free is a good choice, but there are a couple of decarbonizing treatments that have higher percentages of PEA added- Chevron Techron plus, and Gumout Regane. PEA (polyether-amine) is a nitrogen based detergent that has been proven to be the most effective carbon remover, and "engine treatments" that do not contain PEA, such as SeaFoam and StarBrite products, are not effficient carbon removers.

I am likewise not fond of "additives" although the consensus is good for this product.

I don't even run stablizer in my gas in my portable tanks.

To clean out the "cooties" I use Merc's PowerTune when I bring my motors out of winter storage and maybe once or twice more during the year depending on how they get used.

One motor that I troll with a lot gets a clean out with power tune maybe every six weeks or so.

If you routinely run fresh gas you shouldn't "constantly" need any other product - gas from my portable tanks goes in the pick-up truck after being out for the day (it don't even mind 50:1 mix) - that ensures "fresh gas" for the outboard next time out.

I myself am not a fan of seafoam, seen several engines fail shortly after a "overdose" of the stuff.but love the Quickleen.
