Request for TB 56 check 2004 bf 225

First call the Honda Customer Service number at 770-497-6400 to see if they have a record of it being done. They would only have a record if it was done under a warranty repair. If that doesn't work, then you need to get to the exhaust tubes on the engine and take a look. Honda Service Bulletin # 56 shows how the new exhaust tubes look compared to the original ones. If you need a copy of SB #56 send an e-mail to me at [email protected].

Thanks again, no record of any warranty work being done ever. The water line stain on motor looks well more than 6 inches below exhaust tubes. I may just pull the lower plugs( hopefully)

Roger that. Based on monitoring this forum for several years and being a BF 225 myself, the things you need to watch for are blown HO2 sensors due to water incursion up through the original exhaust tubes; a failed mid-shaft bushing which can eat through the lower casing; and corrosion around the thermostat seats, especially if run in saltwater.

Maintenance is pretty standard. Oil & filter change every 100 hours. Whenever I do the oil change, I also pull the plugs and inspect them for black soot or bad burns, then put a little high temperature grease on the threads so they won't get stuck in the head. Lower unit oil change about every 200 hours. Check valves and belts every 400 hours. A few folks have had problems with the tensioner on the main belt.

If you are doing your own maintenance, I highly recommend that you invest in the Official Helm Shop Manual. It's about $116 on Amazon or eBay but the maintenance chapter and the diagnostic chapter alone are well worth the money.

In the above, I forgot to mention the fuel filters. This engine is very sensitive to a failing high pressure fuel filter. It's good practice to change both the HP and LP filters every season.
