Replacing engine control lever and cables

Already tired of winter & ready to work on the boat. I have a 92 Regal 240 with a Volvo 570dp and need to replace the control lever and cables. Teleflex replacements with the tilt/trim switches on the handle are hard to find and expensive. Evidently, Volvo has a special wiring configuration (5 wires) that is odd. I am thinking about buying the controller that only has the trim on the handle, which is much easier to find and $100 less. I have an open spot on the dash for a rocker switch, which I could put a tilt switch in. Oddly enough, the label below that slot is "tilt."

Has anyone done this? Looking for advise on if it will work. In my mind, it shouldn't matter where the switch is located so long as the wiring is configured the same. Thanks for any suggestions.

Ayuh,.... You can install whatever controller ya want, so long as ya adjust the wirin' accordin'ly, 'n the cables have whatever ends on 'em that the Volvo needs, 'n in the right lengths,...

Fancy off-shore controller, or the basic bottom line Teleflex,...
It really don't much matter,...
Most of 'em will either push, or pull the cables, 'n many have a stroke length adjustment,...

'bout the only wirin' common to all controllers is the neutral safety switch,...
Everything else can be wired however ya like, to whichever switches ya want,...

My trim/ tilt switch is an aftermarket that looks like the signal switch on a car,...
left-handed operation, hand on the wheel,...
