Remote idle adjustor

Does anyone make an aftermarket remote idle adjustor for a Mercruiser 4 cyl 3.0? I have a refurbished 1973 Glas ply that I take to several different lakes at different elevations. I tire of removing the engine cover every time I switch lakes to adjust the idle screw.

How would you adjust it for best performance/avoiding too lean and what is the maximum elevation you go to?

Do you have a manual for this engine? I would find one and keep a copy of the info for setting the air/fuel mixture at high altitude. You could also rig a choke cable and fabricate a lever to adjust it within the range needed for your application- if the total range of adjustment is 1/4 turn, you wouldn't need to worry about adjusting it too far in either direction.
 
My maximum elevation is 8000 ft Above Sea Level. my most frequent use is about 850' ASL. I don't adjust the air/fuel every time, just a slight adjustment to the idle screw. Adjustment is typically less than a quarter turn. I was hoping there was some kind of after market adjustment kit.
 
An EFI retrofit would take care of that and the A:F ratio changes....but I wouldn't call that solution cost effective....

If you are just worried about the idle speed, I'd just keep using the screwdriver when you go up to the lake...
 
Rig up a magnetic hex nut drive end that fits the idle screw to a long enough cable that will spin without damage to the cable, and have it go to and easy accessable location.
They sell flexable drilling extensions so you could start with that for a search.
They look similar to a spring but are not.

Maybe have hex tip welded to the cable.
Also attach a screw driver handle ot T to other end of cable.

Secure cable at/around carb/engine so not to interfer with any moving parts.

You dont say what kind of boat or what engine so iys hard to add much more.
 
Early 140 hp 181cid (long before litre designations), Rochester 2 barrel carb, 2 mixture screws but easy to reach.
Pretty simple once you get motor box open. Probably not worth reinventing the wheel over.

Ayuh,..... It should be SOP, to check over the motor, at the start of every day/ outing,....
At a minimum, check the oil level, 'n look for oil, or gas leaks,....

Back when I was runnin' a fleet of dump trucks, I've fired drivers that started their truck, without doing a fluid level, 'n safety check 1st,......
I can honestly say, I've Never done so, with any of my boats,.....

That elevation change is severe- looks like you have decided "It's not going to run right at either altitude if it's set for the other and it won't run great if it's set in the middle, so I'm going to adjust it", but I wouldn't expect to find aftermarket parts.
 
Uhm. Adjusting the idle has about zero to do with the open throttle mixture. You need to install different main jet for either location.
 
Here is a practical suggestion.

Back in the day, Many autos had a idle control solenoid that when the AC was turned on, the solenoid would extend and cause the idle to increase due to load on engine from the AC compressor.

You could look for a 12 volt two wire push/pull solenoid, Choose one with a very small in/out travel and adapt it to the carb, possibly replacing the manual screw. Then wire up a on/off switch at the dash to control the solenoid.
