Rebuilding gearcase with blue indicator

Have an older Evinrude 2-cyl (60hp) that I need to replace the gears on (specifically forward and pinion). I'm totally willing to do (attempt) this myself, but I don't have a tool to measure for shims on that pinion gear/drive shaft. I understand this can be done by putting some Permatex Prussian Blue (or similar) on the pinion and checking the imprint after turning the shaft. Hoping someone can give some good instructions that I can follow to make sure I get it done right.

Also, if anyone can vouch for GearProsInc quality that would appreciated!

Take driveshaft and pinion assy to a local Junkrude shop and have them shim it. I have been using Gearpros for years. Also replace as a set so need reverse also

Hey, sorry for the delay, and thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, I dont have a local shop. The local "marina" place wont touch an engine my age, and they referred me to another guy who works on older engines but he doesnt have the capability either :/

I ended up gambling on an old used lower, will see how it is when I get on the water. I'd rather spend a bit more and get new parts if it can be done right - but at this point doesn't seem like that is viable for me.

Southwestern Ontario, Canada. I found someone on Facebook about 1.5 hr away who seemed to know how to use the dye to shim the gearcase, but he seemed a bit skeptical on the cost versus finding another lower - which is the route I've gone for now. Need some nice weather to get on the water and test it. With the muffs, it seems to be OK simply shifting fwd/neutral/reverse - although it jumps a bit before engaging in reverse. That might be related to my controls though? Pretty sure we set the shift rod height to a tee.
