Quick question. Oil level sensor

I am able to stick a wire into my oil reservior and lift up on the arm and get the constant beeeeeep alarm to stop. I traced a wire out from the bottom of the reservior and disconnected it and the alarm stopped. The wire is either blue purple or pink. I'm colorblind. It has a disconnect before it reaches anything else.

My question is: does this wire serve any other function other than to relay this one sensor to the alarm box?

I would hate to leave this unhooked and it also go to the oil pump sensor or something.

Forgot to say what motor it is. It is a 2000 40 hp Mercury outboard.

That motor has only has oil alarm for oil tank no other oil sensors....

So I'm okay? It doesn't have an alarm if the pump stops working? That is worrisome.

Nope...no monitoring of oil pump.
